Mace Consult is advancing a 400,000-sq-m cultural district in Al-Seeb, Muscat, according to Global Construction Review. The complex comprises a 23,000-sq-m national library, a 22,500-sq-m national archives facility, a 16,300-sq-m national theatre containing two auditoria, a 13,165-sq-m cultural plaza, four facilities buildings and an 8,000-sq-m energy and data centre. The development features an urban plaza at its centre, surrounded by landscaped gardens, water features and a canopy structure. Mace Consult has led design development, programme controls and stakeholder alignment since 2022.

Canopy steelwork substantially finished at Muscat cultural district#

The canopy structural steelwork has been substantially finished, Global Construction Review reported. External infrastructure and utility works have advanced, alongside completion of internal and external finishes. The project is being delivered for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. Naveed Haque, Mace Consult's director in Oman, stated that the firm is driving progress through project and programme leadership, commercial management and collaboration. The development is described as one of Oman's most significant cultural projects.

National theatre and archives anchor Al-Seeb cultural complex#

The 16,300-sq-m national theatre contains two auditoria and forms part of the cultural core alongside the 22,500-sq-m national archives and 23,000-sq-m national library, according to Global Construction Review. The 13,165-sq-m cultural plaza links these facilities, which are supported by four facilities buildings and an 8,000-sq-m energy and data centre. The complex sits within landscaped gardens and incorporates water features alongside the canopy structure. Dr. Samir Al Azri, project director for the ministry, described the project as a strategic investment demonstrating collaboration between the ministry, project partners and stakeholders.

Progress milestones recorded across Muscat cultural district components#

Mace Consult has been engaged on the project since 2022, leading design development and programme controls, Global Construction Review reported. The canopy structural steelwork represents a substantial completion milestone, with external infrastructure, utility works and finishing activities now advancing across the 400,000-sq-m site. The complex will create a destination for culture, learning and community engagement when complete. The urban plaza and landscaped setting will connect the library, archives, theatre and supporting facilities buildings.
