IER MRO appoints Group AMANA for 1.4m sq ft Dubai engine facility

IER MRO Industries has appointed Group AMANA as general contractor for MRO4, the first operational phase of a 1.4 million sq ft engine maintenance, repair and overhaul development at Mohammed Bin Rashid Aerospace Hub in Dubai South. The appointment starts construction of a facility that will provide engine and module repair, robotics, digital twin technology and manufacturing, according to a statement published by IER MRO.

Facility capacity and engine MRO scope#

At full scale, the facility is designed to handle up to 550 engine shop visits annually, equivalent to approximately 2,000 major engine module overhauls per year. A twin test cell facility will be built to conduct more than 1,000 engine tests annually, with capacity for engines producing thrust up to 100,000 lb. The development will provide commercial engine and major module overhauling, engine testing, manufacturing, technical training and aftermarket support. Initial operations will focus on the CFM56 and LEAP engine families, with future expansion planned across manufacturing, component engineering and Parts Manufacturer Approval development.

Digital infrastructure and automation systems#

Digital twin technology and an integrated data environment will link facilities, assets, processes and material flows across the site. The facility will deploy AI-supported engineering, automation, robotics, real-time tracking and predictive technologies. IER MRO is progressing plans to deploy robotic systems for logistics, material movement and technician-assistance activities. The development will also include the IER Centre of Excellence and a dedicated aviation training academy focused on developing local engineers and technicians.

Construction administration and project location#

Construction works will be administered and supervised on behalf of IER MRO by Bureau of Engineering Studies Consulting Engineers, its appointed engineer and consultant. The facility is located at Mohammed Bin Rashid Aerospace Hub, adjacent to Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai South. Lawrence J. Howie, Chairman and CEO of IER MRO Industries, stated the appointment moves the company's vision into physical execution. Tariq Alawneh, General Manager of Group AMANA, confirmed the contractor's role in delivering the facility at the aerospace hub.
